MARION, Ind. – The Polar Bear Invitational is the annual season opening meet for the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams. The Wildcats hosted the large meet on Saturday on a sunny day in the high-40s. Highlighting the long day of competition were NAIA A standards for Chris Maxon in the 10,000-Meter and Brennan Coil in the Shot Put.

NAIA A STANDARDS - MEN

Chris Maxon reached the A standard in the 10,000-Meter Run with a time of 30:51.20. He placed first of seven in the race.

Brennan Coil had a throw of 17.11-meters/56-1.75 feet in the Shot Put. That mark was good for the A standard and first place out of 33 competitors.

NAIA STANDARDS - WOMEN

Paige Sutter hit the A standard in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.58-meters/44-6.75 feet. She place second of 23 throwers.

FIRST PLACE - MEN

Landon Miller finished first of 18 runners in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase. Miller ran a time of 9:44.95.

Chad Ellens took first of 56 runners in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 1:56.11.

Jared Williams ran a time of 15:22.17 in the 5,000-Meter Run to win the 49-runner competition.

FIRST PLACE - WOMEN

Sterling Simek ran a time of 4:57.25 in the 1,500-Meter Run to cross the line first out of 38.

Alex McFarland earned a pair of first place finishes in sprints. McFarland won the 100-Meter in 12.66 seconds and defeated 22 other runners. She earned the second win in the 200-Meter in 25.77 seconds in a 35-runner event.

Eric Stutsman won the 800-Meter Run in a time of 2:19.90. There were 35 total runners in the event.

Carly Wilkins captured first place out of 11 runners in the 400-Meter Hurdles. She finished the race in a time of 1:07.16.

Indiana Wesleyan returns to action next week at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open hosted by Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
